Pharmacology and treatment – Week #11

https://deadiversion.usdoj.gov/

This week’s topic is particularly interesting. My late husband worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration for 44 years. It was originally called the BNDD – Bureau of Narcotic and Dangerous Drugs. The office of Diversion Control is the section that deals with prescription drugs and the physicians who prescribe them. Jim had some really interesting stories about doctors and “pill mills.” Two of the major issues he spent the last 20 years of his career working on were the opioid epidemic and the illegal distribution of medications that became commonplace over the internet. Diversion has an excellent website – see link posted above.

For anyone really interested in this topic: The DEA building in Arlington, Virginia (across the street from the Pentagon) has a small museum on the first floor. I know this because Jim helped to put it together.
