For my US History of Mental Health project for this semester, I will be writing a digitally enhanced essay. The essay will be on how the APA’s removal of homosexuality as a mental illness was a purely political move. Instead of it being more based on psychiatric research. The among the sources of my paper will be several secondary sources that analyze this occurrence and place it within 1970s America. However, the crucial sources for this essay will be the various interviews with APA members when the vote occurred. It will be with these sources and their analysis in this paper that will provide the central portions of this essay. As for the digitally enhanced portion, I have found a few videos, images, and collections to provide further context and enhancement to my paper.
