The video discusses the notion of the struggling artist and how this is a trend we have seen throughout time. Mental illness and creativity work in the brain in similar ways and this is why mentally ill or distressed individuals seem to have an added sense of creativity. Many of the movies and shows our class have watched deal with incredibly creative people and their struggles with mental illness. Creativity very often is stemmed from free association of thoughts and ideas.
