Eunice Shriver was a big proponent of mental health care and awareness. She started Camp Shriver as a way to show people with mental health issues that they are just as talented as anyone else. At the camp they would play a variety of sports and activities. Camp Shriver was the influence for the Special Olympics which held their first games in 1968.
