Project Proposal and Outline

RESEARCH PROPOSAL PLUS ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY,  PUBLISHED AS BLOG POST ON YOUR GROUP’S WORDPRESS SITE
Due September 25

Your research proposal should be the equivalent of a two-to-three page discussion of the major topics your group’s project WordPress site and documentary will cover. It should mention your artifact’s antecedents, invention, possible alternatives, and its interaction with American society and culture. It should also describe the basic structure for your project WordPress site and for your documentary. It should discuss any ways that you foresee using AI in the creation of the site and the documentary.  Mention what digital tools in general you’ll be using to create the documentary.  Finally, your group should indicate why it chose this particular technology to study.

Your annotated bibliography should include both primary and secondary sources. You should have at least 15 sources, of which at least seven must be peer-reviewed scholarly sources (generally books or scholarly journals).  It should be clear that your group has done some serious scouting of material for your project and that the group will have enough to write the research-based content.   Each source must have a 1-2 sentence annotation, explaining its relevance to the project.

Bibliographic citations should be done using the standardized format for historians. Use the 18th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style or Zotero using the CMS style formatting for Notes and Bibliography.

PROJECT OUTLINES DUE October 16, POSTED TO YOUR PROJECT BLOG.  

This could be two separate posts on your blog, covering the plan for the following.

  • For the research site: skeleton outline (what pages will be used, what material on what page, any timeline/map), list of media (images, videos, etc.), and a key (iconic) image of the technology being studied (with citation for that image). [The iconic image will be used on the course website as the entry to your group’s project.]  Any images/information created with AI should be identified here, including sources/prompts.
  • For the documentary short: storyboards/detailed outline of what will go in the documentary and progress toward that end. Any plans to generate/create with AI must be identified as such here.

In separate form (ask Dr. McClurken) submit your mid-semester group evaluation by October 16 as well.
